Melville Cricket Club are delighted to announce the appointment of David Taylor as our new Senior Men’s Head Coach.
Born in England, David spent his youth in Perth playing District cricket with Midland Guildford and attending Kent Street High School, a school renowned for its cricket academy. Talented enough to represent WA at 5 different sports, a soccer scholarship to Aston Villa made him return to England and from then on much of his senior sports experiences have been in England playing cricket for Minor County sides, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. His attacking talent was enough to convince both Worcs and Derbyshire to sign him up to One Day contracts at the highest level of English cricket.
Following many years of successful club cricket, he set a world record in adult 50-over cricket by scoring 330 not out in just 160 balls for Totton & Eling cricket club including a world record 31 sixes. David’s experience and love for the game have allowed him to move seamlessly into a successful coaching career which has seen him hold the position of head coach at club level in England and also in Perth’s Suburban Turf Competition with Ocean Ridge CC and Bentley CC.
His passion and desire to coach MCC have shone through during the interview process and we feel strongly that he will keep the club moving forward and challenge players from all four grades to be the best they can be.
David has shown tremendous resilience to work his way back from serious challenges on and off the field and MCC welcomes this opportunity to support him in his continued recovery from this.
“I consider myself honoured to be taking up the position of Head Coach for Melville Cc and I can’t wait to get working alongside a fantastic team of guys. I aim to bring some fresh ideas to training sessions and push each player to the next level in cricket both on and off the field,” said Taylor.
With Pre Season starting in 4 weeks, Taylor aims to utilise this time getting to know everyone and join in on some gym workouts with the group to be thoroughly prepared for season 20/21.
We look forward to the journey ahead as we welcome David and his family into the MCC fold.
