Coaches

The Melville Cricket Club prides itself on having what we believe to be the most elite, diverse and innovative coaching structure. Our coaching team consists of eight former national and international players who are now giving back and contributing to creating the next crop of elite cricketers. In addition, we have a number of developing and passionate coaches across our structure providing specialist knowledge and mentoring to our playing group across all competitions and teams.

  • Paul Terry
    Paul Terry Director of Cricket Operations

    Accreditation: Level 3

    Paul Terry is a former English cricketer, having played for Melville Cricket Club & 2 tests for England in 1984. Paul has been at the club for 22 years, 8 of those years as coach. Paul has played 48 1st Grade games for Melville Cricket Club.

     

  • David Taylor
    David Taylor Male Teams Head Coach

    Accreditation: Level 3

    Born in England, David spent his youth in Perth playing District cricket with Midland Guildford and attending Kent Street High School, a school renowned for its cricket academy. Talented enough to represent WA at 5 different sports, a soccer scholarship to Aston Villa made him return to England and from then on much of his senior sport experiences have been in England playing cricket for Minor County sides, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. His attacking talent was enough to convince both Worcs and Derbyshire to sign him up to one day contracts at the highest level of English cricket.
    Following many years of successful club cricket, he set a world record in adult 50-over cricket by scoring 330 not out in just 160 balls for Totton & Eling cricket club including a world record 31 sixes. David’s experience and love for the game has allowed him to move seamlessly into a successful coaching career which has seen him hold the position of head coach at club level in England and also in Perth’s Suburban Turf Competition with Ocean Ridge CC and Bentley CC.
    His passion and desire to coach MCC has shone through during the interview process and we feel strongly that he will keep the club moving forward and challenge players from all four grades to be the best they can be.
  • Lauren Shaw
    Lauren Shaw Junior Girls Coordinator and Senior Teams Assistant Coach
    Accreditation: Level 2

    Lauren is a Past Melville player who has played over 200 games of A grade cricket, with over 1500 runs and 100 wickets. Her strengths were patrolling the boundary, bowling at the death and being a handy middle order bat, who was great at running between the wickets.

    As a coach Lauren’s strength is skill development, working with young cricketers and bringing them through to senior grade cricket and on to representing the state.

    Lauren is currently on staff at the WACA as the WA U15s Assistant Coach.

  • Steve Russell
    Steve Russell Senior Teams Assistant Coach

    Accreditation Level: 2

    Doig is a Melville stalwart having played well over 350 matches for the blue and black.  With a wealth of experience on the field, he has also played a very active role off the field developing our juniors and seniors in various positions over the years. Steve brings plenty of energy, fun and desire to see others succeed with everything that he does.

  • Drew Porter
    Drew Porter Senior Teams Specialist Coach / Mentor

    Accreditation: Level 1
    Drew is one of our current 1st grade players and has been a standout club performer for many years. He has played over 250 1st Games for the club. He has played first class cricket for Western Australia and is a multiple presidents medal winner at MCC. Another of our experienced players, he brings plenty of tips and skill development for both bat and ball to our players.

  • Luke Towers
    Luke Towers Senior Teams Specialist Coach / Mentor

    Accreditation: Level 1
    Luke is our current 1st grade and club captain. He was formerly contracted with the WACA having debuted for the Warriors in 2009 with a top score of 124 for WA. A passionate club man and top order batsmen, Luke is giving back to the club through his coaching and mentoring of a number of our players. As one of our most experienced players, he has great insight for all of our up and coming future stars.

  • Sean Terry
    Sean Terry Colts Coach & Mentor

    Sean Terry is a former Irish International and county cricket player & is currently 1st Grade captain of Melville Cricket Club. Sean also played for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.

  • Richard Power
    Richard Power Junior Director

    Former 1st Grade player for Melville Cricket Club. Played 95 1st Grade games from 1986 – 2000.

  • Andrew Kelly
    Andrew Kelly Under 13's Coach
  • Mark Turner
    Mark Turner Junior Cricket Coordinator

    Accreditation: Level 2
    Mark is a 1st grade Melville player who has played for Melville since he was in the under 13’s. Mark has now played 55 1st grade matches taking over 120 wickets. His strengths are being able to use the new ball well, bowling into the breeze, out fielding and being a swing man in the batting order. Mark has played 3 games representing WA so far with aims to play more in the future. Mark tries to encourage his players to constantly learn by asking questions and striving to improve. His knowledge in bowling and skill acquisition allow him to nurture our young cricketers to become ready for senior cricket in the future.

  • Terry Culley
    Terry Culley Under 17's Coach

    Terry Culley is the Under 17’s coach for season 2019/20. Terry coached the Under 17’s side of season 2017/18 to Under 17’s Premiers.

  • Ian Hill
    Ian Hill Under 15's Head Coach
  • Blake Reed
    Blake Reed Under 15's & 17's Mentor

    Blake is a talented all-rounder with an experienced approach to the game. Having played senior cricket since the age of 16, Blake understands what it takes for young cricketers to be successful. Blake represented Western Australia in underage national carnivals and is currently the opening batsman and a seam bowler for Melville CC 1st grade in the WACA Premier Competition.

  • Adam Shaw
    Adam Shaw Under 14's Head Coach

    Adam Shaw has played for Melville for many years, starting as a junior and progressing up the senior grades. Adam Shaw made his 1st Grade debut in 2017.
